Ana Seara

Born in 1985, Portuguese composer Ana Seara, completed the Degree in Composition ESML – Lisbon, with Distinction in 2007. She won 1st and 2nd prizes in the International Composition Competition of Póvoa de Varzim in Chamber Music and Orchestral Music categories, (2006, 2007,2008.) Ana finished, in 2010, her Master's thesis in Composition. She had several commissions, among them, from Chamber Orchestra of Cascais and Oeiras, Lisbon Sinfonietta Orchestra, OrchestrUtopica, Contemporary Music Group of Lisbon, Fondazione Adkins Chiti: Donne in Musica. Ana became part of the enoa community in 2012 when she attended the Workshop for voice with Luca Francesconi organised by Gulbenkian Foundation. She was nominated for the 1st Prize for Young Composers of the Verbier Music Festival 2013. Ana participated, in April 2013, in Budapest, on the “Out at SEA Chamber opera workshop”, organized by the Peter Eötvös Foundation, with Peter Eötvos and Luca Francesconi. For the season of 2013/2014 Ana had a new work commissioned by the Gulbenkian Orchestra. She also participated in the Workshop for voice by enoa in LOD, Ghent, in the Opera Creation Workshop with Martin Crimp and George Benjamin – Aix-en-Provence 2014 and Music Theatre for Young Audiences Workshop - Munich 2016. In the 2014 season of Casa da Música - Oporto, she was the young resident composer. Last December she participated in an enoa opera Lab at Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, Belgium. Now, this immersive and participatory opera for children combining Mozart’s and Seara’s music is on tour as an enoa Co-production. Ana also works as a Pedagogical Director at the Lisbon Academy of Music.
