Heather Fairbairn

Heather Fairbairn is a stage director and librettist. For enoa, she created a multi-lingual, immersive and participatory adaptation of Mozartʼs The Magic Flute for young audiences, in co-production with Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth (Belgium), Escuela de Música Reina Sofía (Madrid) and Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (Lisbon). As director, recent work includes the world premiere of The Mutant Man in a “stylish production” (The Stage) with “glimpses of visual genius in its staging" (theplaysthething) at The Space Arts Centre London, funded by the Arts Council of England. Directing credits also include: Schubertʼs Winterreise (NIDA); Sunnytown (La Boite Theatre Company); Jez Butterworth's The River (NIDA); and, Dennis Kelly's Orphans (Actors Centre Australia). As Associate Director, Assistant Director, and Trainee Director, Heather has worked with leading companies: Royal Opera House Covent Garden (Lucia di Lammermoor; Il Trovatore), Opera Australia (La Cenerentola), Festival dʼAix-en-Provence (Alcina), Royal Court Theatre / Schaubühne Berlin (Ophelias Zimmer), La Boite Theatre Company (As You Like It), and shake&stir (1984); and, regularly works with notable theatre and opera director Katie Mitchell. Heather holds a Master of Fine Arts (Directing) from the National Institute of Dramatic Art, Australia, and a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Drama & Creative Writing) from the University of Queensland.
