Composing for Voices with Luís Tinoco

Workshop for young composers focusing on vocal and orchestral writing oriented by the Portuguese composer Luís Tinoco. 

Participants will be able to discuss their creative ideas practicing their musical writing. Through the development of their own projects during a period of 7 months (December 2018 – July 2019), they will have the chance to work together with singers and the Orquestra Gulbenkian, improving their musical skills on both singing and orchestral writing.


The workshop will end with a public concert on 13th July 2019.
 

After the workshop, two participants might be selected in order to create a new work to be premiered by Orquestra Gulbenkian in the following seasons.


The workshop is structured in 3 periods. 
Participants must be available for the 3 phases. 


PHASE 1 / 3-5 December 2018 
Theoretical session, of 3 days, in which Luís Tinoco will involve participants in a discussion on the composition practice today and give guidelines in order to help participants to develop their new projects for the following phases of the workshop. Participants will be able to present some sketches to generate already some discussion on it during this first part of the workshop. 
 

PHASE 2 / 26-27 March 2019 
Reading sessions with the Orquestra Gulbenkian: participants will have the chance to listen to their musical sketches played by the orchestra, and receive some guidance on the creative process.
 

PHASE 3 / 8-13 July 2019 
Participants will present completed short works (10/12 minutes) and will attend to the rehearsals by Orquestra Gulbenkian on a final preparation of their works. 
There will be discussions on practical problems that emerge from the performance. The final concert will take place on July 13th 2019.

 Application process

- the artist must be connected to one of the 13 enoa member institutions
- the artist must contact his/her sending institution, which decides if they recommend his/her application
- the hosting institution confirms the list of participants after the registration deadline
- the network assumes the responsibility for the training fees, the costs of accommodation and travel 
- per-diem are paid or not according to each institution’s internal rules
