Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg
Grand Théâtre & Théâtre des Capucins

The Théâtres de la Ville, namely the Grand Théâtre and the Théâtre des Capucins can accommodate high standard and large scale productions in opera, dance, music theatre and theatre in several languages and can claim their place among the most sophisticated venues in Europe. Over the past seasons, the Théâtres de la Ville have seen pass a plethora of local and international artists, to the delight of its spectators. 1/3 of the programming is dedicated to its own creations and 2/3 is devoted to international coproductions which reflects the image of the whole country and is a sign of its openness and dynamism.

The eclectic programming of the Grand Théâtre strives to represent all that is played, sung and danced on stage, always seeking quality of the highest degree, and keen to deliver to the needs of its ever-growing audience. With a programme that is focused on quality and diversity, the Grand Théâtre has forged a solid reputation with its European partners over the years and has been able to consolidate its collaborations with many other prestigious houses and festivals over the years.

Located in the city centre, the Théâtre des Capucins is dedicated to the creation of contemporary works, the support of young talent and international coproductions that include local professionals. For the first time in June this year, the Capucins will also host a project laboratory for emerging talent where four young actors, authors and directors will have the opportunity to work on their projects with experienced professionals.

In the same vein, the Théâtres de la Ville aim to increase and develop the creative vitality of the national scene by actively promoting the consideration of local talent in international coproductions. Furthermore, considerable effort is invested to enable home grown projects to tour abroad by constantly nurturing its partnerships with other European venues. This strategy of the Théâtres de la Ville, blending “home” creations and international co-productions, has not only enabled the Grand Théâtre and the Théâtre des Capucins to increase the visibility of Luxembourg both in the Greater Region and throughout Europe, it has also enabled young Luxembourgish artists to work internationally by promoting them beyond the borders thanks to the excellent relationships with its partners.

TalentLAB by the Théâtres de la Ville de Lxembourg

The 2015-2016 season saw the launch of TalentLAB, a new initiative run by the Théâtres de la Ville in collaboration with the Théâtre du Centaure. TalentLAB was conceived with the aim of finding a formula to best guide and support emerging talent in Luxembourg. It is first and foremost a laboratory: a platform for exchanging ideas, where dialogue, research and development are at the forefront. During ten days of TalentLAB, the project leaders will be given the opportunity to develop a scratch performance under the generous expert guidance of experienced artists, recruited from long-term international associates especially selected for this patronage.
