Opera Creation Workshop
The stage director Nicola Hümpel and her group “Nico and the Navigators” are dedicated to very special, independent working methods: “We work exclusively through improvisation, so every member of the ensemble navigates the piece” says Hümpel. Like navigators the performers find and create their own artistic style with mostly completely new sounds, motions and languages on stage. Every artist is individually involved with his or her specific character.
The Theaterakademie August Everding is planning a workshop as the very first step which should lead to a music theatre production directed by Nicola Hümpel.
The content of the performance will be developed together with the ensemble. 8 to 10 singers will be the performing artists.
The workshop’s objectives: Nicola Hümpel and all participating artists will develop first ideas for a new piece. How to find a subject to work on? What am I interested in? How and what kind of research is needed? How could ideas be realized on stage?
The aim of the workshop is to deepen the work/method of involving the performing artists into the creative process. There will be much improvisational work and also coaching regarding voice training and body work.
Output for the artists
- to deepen different research technics
- to develop needed skills regarding different working periods: from idea to concept, from concept to realization on stage
- involving the performing artists into the whole creative process
- to define the own individual artistic style and the artistic style of the ensemble at the same time
- to improve work regarding improvisation
- voice training coaching
- body work training.
Application process for the artists willing to apply
- the artist must be connected to one of the 13 enoa member institutions
- the artist must contact his/her sending institution, which decides if they recommend his/her application
- the hosting institution confirms the list of participants after the registration deadline
- the network assumes the responsibility for the training fees, the costs of accommodation and travel (fully or partly according to each institution’s internal rules)
- per-diem are paid or not according to each institution’s internal rules
