Composing for voices - Phase 1

Workshop for young composers focusing on vocal and orchestral writing oriented by the composer Magnus Lindberg. Participants will be able to discuss their ideas practicing their musical writing, having a chance to listen their works performed by Orquestra Gulbenkian

The workshop is structured in 3 phases, which happen in different moments:

Phase 1   (15/17 Feb 2014): Theoretical sessions during 3 days in which Magnus Lindberg will involve participants with a discussion on the composition practice of our days (including singing) and giving the guidelines for new projects – the participants will present those new projects on the second phase of the workshop. Participants are able to present some sketches promoting already some discussion on it during this first part of the workshop.

Magnus Lindberg is involved in a project with soprano Barbara Hannigan which will be premiered with LPO in January 2015. Barbara Hannigan will join M. Lindberg on the phase I of the workshop,  sharing their work experience so far with participants.

Phase 2   (17/18 June 2014): Reading sessions with Orquestra Gulbenkian – participants will have the chance to listen to their musical sketches played by the orchestra (conducted by Magnus Lindberg), and receive some guidance on the creative process.

Phase 3   (8/12 September 2014): Participants will present completed short works (10/12 minutes) and will attend to the rehearsals by Orquestra Gulbenkian conducted by Magnus Lindberg on a final preparation of their works. Discussion on practical problems that performance gives out. Workshop will finish with a public presentation on 12th September 2014 .
