À l'extrême bord du monde

Harold Noben, Mien Bogaert

04 October 2020

World Premiere on 4 October, 2020 at La Monnaie / De Munt, Brussels

Based on Stefan & Lotte's letters to their family, as well as on several of Stefan Zweig's writings, his diary, and the biographies written about him, À l'extrême bord du monde is a chamber opera which intends to explore and suggest in music what could have been the last day of the Zweig couple in Petropolis, near Rio in Brazil, where they decided to kill themselves together.

The young Belgian composer Harold Noben wrote this chamber opera for mezzo, tenor and piano quintet about these tragic final days. His piece was formed with the help of Benoît Mernier and the support of the enoa.

La Monnaie presents the result of this unique collaboration. A one time semi-scenic performance by artists-in-residence of the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel.
