Operosa

How to create modern world from the old world ?
with Rodula Gaitanou

Understanding the story in today’s context might change the way we look at the conventional repertoire opera pieces. The readings of the text in present time makes us think of universally spread themes and topics, but from the contemporary perspective.

By using opera Rigoletto as an example, we will dig into the world of female emancipation, abuse, gender stereotypes, double standards, disability and class society. We will try to open discussion on all these topics and raise awareness of importance in seeing all of these different opera stories in the relevant way – so they communicate with the audience as any contemporary piece would do.

There is many possibilities and many operas to work on, but this time we will focus on Rigoletto’s quartet and selection of opera arias that are widely performed.

All the participants will be working together on creating active discussions and will gain tools in further contemporary interpretations.
