TRAINING

Dutch National Opera & Ballet

Dutch National Opera & Ballet

The Art of Auditioning

with Rosemary Joshua & Alain Garichot

30 March - 03 April 2020

Dutch National Opera & Ballet

How to successfully prepare and train for an audition?
with Rosemary Joshua (artistic director of the Dutch National Opera Studio) and Alain Garichot (stage director)

In this workshop, we will discuss how choosing suitable repertoire and preparing a carefully selected package of diverse arias will be the first step to success. The singers will learn how to take any aria out of its operatic context and deliver in a few minutes the desired atmosphere, emotional content and to access a very specific character.

The  tools and techniques that help singers acquire these skills such as mental preparation is as important as the physical and vocal work that is required.

All will be tackled over the course of the workshop: the repertoire should fit both vocally and physically, these chosen arias should exploit the complete vocal range and not expose weaknesses.

8 young singers will be guided under a microscope to improve their skills with specific tools that help develop their confidence to perform under pressure.

The week will commence with an improvisational session with young Dutch multidisciplinary artists Robin Coops ( already supported by enoa).

Rosemary Joshua and Alain Garichot will be assisted by members of the music staff at Dutch National Opera to provide an intensive week of preparation which will include a recital of arias during a concert /audition organised by Dutch National Opera Opera for public and members of the DNO.

The final audition will be recorded in HD in order to provide the singers with material for future use and the singers will be provided with valuable feedback.
