TRAINING

Women Opera Makers Workshop

with Katie Mitchell

08 - 12 July 2022

For the fifth year in a row, the Académie du Festival d'Aix is running an empowerment programme for female opera creators – composers, authors, stage directors and conductors – in the middle of their careers.

Workshop open to women composers, authors, stage directors and conductors who have at least five years considerable experience in their respective field.

This programme, which marks the Festival's strong commitment to gender issues in opera, has become one of the Académie's emblematic symbols. The Women Opera Makers workshop, led by the stage and opera director Katie Mitchell, engages the Festival at the heart of one of today's major social issues. It contributes to reducing the strong professional inequalities that exist between women and men in opera, and to ensuring a greater diversity of artistic profiles and projects.

The Académie provides a space for professional visibility for mid-career women directors, writers, composers and conductors. It consolidates a network of influential women artists while providing concrete and structured tools for career development.

At the end of the workshop, the twelve artists invited will participate to “Génération Opéra”, the day of professional meetings at the heart of the Festival.
