Singing contemporary music

with Topi Lehtipuu

11 - 15 July 2017

Theaterakademie August Everding

Working on essential technics and repertoire for contemporary music

What does exactly mean contemporary? Does contemporary mean modern? What is classical in contemporary music? And how to sing contemporary? These questions are the focus of a 5-days workshop with renown singer Topi Lehtipuu.

The participants will exemplarily work on contemporary opera and concert repertoire. It’s the main objective to practice how to deal exactly with contemporary music. Different opera arias/pieces from the second part of the 20th century will be examined to search for criterions defining ‘classical’ in contemporary music. Parallelisms between classical and modern singing technics will be pointed out.

Each day there will be a lecture, individual musical coachings and practical exercises and a masterclass with all participants.

The workshop can help young singers to be less ‘frigthened’ about contemporary music and to develop a much more general understanding for the meaning of contemporary.

At the end of the workshop there will be a public performance with regards to the content of the workshop programme.
